Why have whole sections of the built environment been so slow with the take-up of BIM?
For me, the problem is the message; that BIM requires a 3D model. This message alienates many, including many sector Housing Associations, who often had no 2D drawing let alone 3D models of their estates and don’t have the resources necessary to build 3D models of all their existing estates.
Yet it is those with poor information and records on their estates that have the most to gain from a standard way of record-keeping that is digital by default as recommended by Dame Judith Hackitt.
