Deliverables exchange: A to B via CDE
17 Oct 2019
The communication and capture of information deliverables detailed in the clients Exchange Information Requirements (EIR) document has presented the industry with an administrative overhead and challenge. Challenges include; the client articulation of requirements, the level of detail and format of information, the technical process of aligning naming conventions and the physical process of data transfer. Other issues include; inaccurately named source data, metadata assigned wrongly, and incorrect file formats used. Then there is the challenge of interoperability and whether supply chain and client CDE's can ?talk to one another' in the TLA language of BIM! The historic solution has been to allocate highly trained document controllers on both the client and supply chain side to monitor and manage this process. A significant burden on complex projects with regular data exchanges. Balfour Beatty and Highways England presented this challenge to GroupBC with the added requirement to improve quality of information deliverables between parties. The solution is ?BC Connect' a powerful passport control and gateway solution that is multi-lingual and conversant with naming conventions and the interpretation/setup of these on client and supply chain CDE's. This talk drills into real-world project challenges and clearly spells out the ROI relating to collaborative CDE's.
