By the summer of 2020, the university of the west of England (UWE), is on track to have 90% of its 300,000m² estate digitised, as part of their Digital Campus project. What validated learning can we get from this case study? This talk will work backwards from achieving the digital campus right the way back to when the first ingredients were decided upon and added to the “digital mixing bowl”. We’ll begin with the value that we are getting from our single source of building information. We’ll look at what went wrong along the way and how we learned lessons from getting it wrong. Then it’s probably worth having a look at the things that have gone right before going back to the triggers for BIM and how we formed our early requirements.
