Bluesky, the UK's leading aerial survey company, has launched a new generation of 3D textured mesh models of UK cities, MetroVista. But what is a mesh model, what are the advantages of this approach and how can they be used to help you save time and money? The session will discuss how these fully rendered 3D mesh models are created automatically at a fraction of the cost of a traditional 3D model and how sensor technology has evolved to include co-registered LiDAR, taking the accuracies of these models to a new level. The session will also cover how new technology can stream the data directly into GIS, CAD or other software allowing a vast array of applications including:

  • City Planning, new building visualisation, public engagement.
  • Telecommunications – Zone of Visual Interference and Line of Sight
  • Insurance – Analysis of buildings, dimensions/volume, construction material, number of windows and proximity of other buildings/trees.
  • Security/Emergency services – a 3D operational picture, visualise access to difficult to reach areas, threats from rooftops.

Using vertical aerial photography, full 360-degree oblique aerial photography and high-density LiDAR, Bluesky have been able to reproduce dense urban areas to create the basis of a real-to-life digital twin.
