The future of enabling digital technologies to transform construction

This interactive workshop explores pathways for contributing to achieving 50% faster and 33% cheaper construction delivery via increased productivity, greater certainty, and incorporation of real-time IoT, digital manufacturing and installation techniques. The aim is to identify the opportunities for such transformation and then channel these into future scenarios for practical applications in short, medium and long-terms. A presentation of future scenarios will show the inter-relationships between cutting edge digital technologies and construction business models. This session is intended to stimulate the imagination of participants, to share and test these ideas with others, and collectively turn them into realistic propositions for transforming the nature and culture of construction. Up-to-date findings of a government-funded research project to develop future scenarios and technology roadmap to facilitate construction transformation, will be presented. This is a joint industry/academia effort to explore how the latest radical ideas for IoT, sensors, mobile robot nodes, wireless communications and other digital technologies could fundamentally redefine traditional construction delivery processes and business models. It will address challenges, identify opportunities, and define policies and pathways that would help facilitate this transformation process. The second part of this workshop will include participation in our final December 2019 workshop or on-line webinar.
