VR & AR – Making it more than a buzzword

The visual power of Virtual and augmented reality to inform the viewer is indisputable. The old adage, ‘a picture tells a thousand words’, is still very true to this day. In terms of VR, it is a case of a thousand pictures tell a million words! But how do we harness this technology to go beyond visualisation, and make it a quantifiable and tangible benefit and thus a real asset to a workflow? The challenge of further uptake of VR and AR would be making it more accessible and easy to understand, while also further developing its potential. On the surface its interface and use needs to be more accessible, while in the background its software architecture needs to be made more complex. Less emphasis needs to be placed on the visuals and more is needed to develop the interaction and abilities you can achieve within the VR and AR environment.
