By 2050 it is projected that 90% of all vehicles on the road in the UK will be electric. The advent of electric vehicles will generate significant economic and social benefits. However challenges exist. Key policy initiatives will drive urban environments to be locked down, banning all forms of petrol and diesel vehicles. Transportation to construction sites will be critically impacted. New construction programs will be required to support a growing need for charge point infrastructure. The topic of this paper addresses the key challenge - the where and when of charging point deployments. It looks at the dependencies on various organisations such as Energy Companies, Transport and Local Authorities, and explains how geospatial analysis can be used to inform and guide them. Spatial analysis techniques are demonstrated to show how location-based insight can support joined-up strategies across multiple industries. The use of numerous data layers, intelligently collated together is also shown to assist in crucial impact analysis on different sectors such as construction and transportation. Ultimately this paper aims to contribute to a sustainable and global initiative, proving how this can help organisations successfully meet the challenges posed and realise the benefits offered to them and the communities they serve.
