FRP Composites; Materials to enable innovation

18 Oct 2018
DBE Theatre
Digital Built Environment
FRP composites are an ever-evolving group of materials that deliver a vast array of benefits including weight reduction, corrosion resistance, freedom of form, low thermal conductivity, freedom of finish and inbuilt sensors. FRP composites uptake in construction is growing as their unique combinations of benefits become increasingly well recognised. Current use covers both building and infrastructure with diverse applications including rebar, tunnel linings, highways bridges, building panels, and more cosmetic items. Structures/parts are factory manufactured using digital controls, often to Industry 4.0 standards, this aligns perfectly with the construction industry drive towards offsite manufacture. The presentation will provide an informed understanding of the material group, showcase applications where they are beneficial, provide guidance on how to develop knowledge and how to engage with the supply chain.
