A high level of collaboration is essential to get the most out of your digitized process and truly improve project coordination. Tools are only half of the battle; it's the people and processes that are the ultimate differentiators. We will explore how coordination processes were implemented during the design phase of a unique multi-use development in London's East End that includes a museum, university, residential & retail units. With 6 unique buildings, 15 teams, and between 40-100 individuals working regularly on the project, a lean coordination process with clearly defined roles and responsibilities was critical to the project's success. We will share our workflows and processes that were created as a common strategy between very different building types, as well as teams with varying levels of BIM experience. Central to this process was democratising the BIM data & communications. This included opening access to owners and other critical stakeholders to issues and project metrics. It was vital to bridge the gap between BIM and the end users. When people don't understand things, they are naturally skeptical. When we use BIM to make information transparent, the full value can be realised.
