New BIM applications: 4D clash detection and 3D requirements management

BIM Workshops
BIM Village
The session will outline how to effectively structure, capture and integrate data into a live BIM model. It will cover the essential requirements of a robust Project Breakdown Structure (PBS) passing on best practice experiences on PBS development for infrastructure projects. The power of a well-tuned PBS as the 'glue' to combining all kinds of project data is underlined and demonstrated with the following two new BIM applications: 4D clash detection - In complex inner city infrastructure projects, there is a high demand for planning and monitoring works, including existing utilities and services and site equipment. Enhancing the standard 3D clash detection process, ViCon developed a logic to identify and to track the resolution of 'time clashes'. The concept is demonstrated based on a live project. 3D requirements management - It is common practice on large-scale projects to document and report project requirements using specialized software systems. ViCon will demonstrate how these requirements are mapped to elements of the common PBS to actively use the 3D model retrieving specific requirements in the context of surrounding systems and producing visual reports of the status of requirements. Verification documents are mapped to requirement IDs to ensure traceability and completeness of documentation.
