Atkins digital Incubator team were tasked to produce a rapid solution within 100 days to solve one of their client's biggest problems. As one of Atkins main clients, Thames Water was chosen and the challenge addressed was to provide an innovative tool to transform their stored data and improve communication. At any time, Thames Water engineers are working on hundreds of projects to serve their 15 million customers. But coordinating and planning those projects is a huge challenge, so keeping teams informed and coordinated presents a real opportunity to make cost savings, reduce disruption and improve services. To address this, eight2O (the alliance which Atkins is part of) -developed a new tool ThamesConnect - which shares asset data and programme information across multiple teams in eight2O, Thames Water and the Infrastructure Alliance in one place. ThamesConnect is powered by the existing geospatial technology ArcGIS online. ThamesConnect enables teams to see where other work is planned or needed, giving them the opportunity to co-ordinate their work; saving money and reducing disruption. Through ThamesConnect we proved our hypothesis that better data would help Thames Water provide a better service for customers, and deliver real Totex efficiencies.
