DCW and the UK BIM Alliance are partnering up for the fifth year running to provide visitors with two days of free BIM content at the show. The UK’s leading exhibition for innovation and technology in the built environment takes place at London ExCeL next week on 16-17 October.

BIM has very much been the launching point for the digitisation of the Built Environment in the UK and continues to play a key role in the sector’s digital transformation. Our aim, alongside the UK BIM Alliance, is to help make BIM business as usual.
“We’ve got two full theatre programmes this year with over 32 hours of completely free to attend BIM seminars and workshops. We’ll also have a host of exhibitors showcasing the latest software and solutions to help you on your BIM journey.
Whether you’re just starting out or a seasoned BIM pro, there will be something for everyone at DCW next week.”
BIM Village
The BIM Village, in partnership with the UK BIM Alliance, is back at DCW for 2019, and will host 25 seminar sessions covering BIM-related practical learning, case studies, and best practice.
Highlights include ‘Creating Hackitt’s Golden Thread for Asset Management’ which will bring together experts Andrew de Silva (David Miller Architects), George Stevenson (Activeplan), Lloyd Connors (Airey Miller), and Alex Small (Tata Steel), to provide working examples of how asset information can be accurately tracked and recorded with today’s technology.
In ‘Lightspeed BIM’, Agata Kostrzewa, senior design technology lead at WeWork, will look at ways WeWork facilitates collaboration to help navigate challenges and successfully implement BIM processes in a lightning fast project environment. While Lee Jones, head of manufacturer solutions at NBS, will discuss BIM adoption within the manufacturing sector in his session ‘BIM for Manufacturers: Dispelling the Myths, Mayhem and Confusion’.
BIM Workshops
This year will also see the return of the BIM Workshops at DCW, offering longer more interactive sessions with a focus on active learning.
Workshop highlights include ‘Digitising Facilities Management: The recipe for a digital campus’, with University of the West of England’s (UWE) digital/BIM manager, Mike Ford, which will look at UWE’s journey to becoming a digital campus, what the benefits are, and what was learned along the way.
BAM’s David Pickard will share how they are using digital setting out and as built verification technologies at their King’s Cross project to help develop the concept of the connected site, where day-to-day activities are linked to a 3D digital twin. While Thomas Gould, digital innovations manager at Skanska UK, will provide an overview of Skanska’s innovative BIM Management Workbook, which is designed to provide a single point of entry for project information, including a live demonstration on its functionality and use.
The Construction Innovation Hub
New for 2019 is a theatre in partnership with the Construction Innovation Hub, which will feature sessions focused on transforming construction through manufacturing technologies and digital ways of working.
Key sessions on BIM to watch out for include a talk from Nicola Pearson, head of change and knowledge transfer at CDBB’s International Programme, which will look at how CDBB and the Construction Innovation Hub aim to support and deliver an International BIM Programme. CDBB change consultant and former head of BIM for the UK BIM Task Group, David Philp, will also be on hand to share plans for CDBB and the Construction Innovation Hub to support and deliver the UK BIM Programme.

UK BIM Framework Launch
DCW have also partnered with BSI, Centre for Digital Built Britain (CDBB), and the UK BIM Alliance, for the launch of the UK BIM Framework. The Framework will set the BIM agenda for the years ahead and provide guidance for those looking to make BIM business as usual.
Taking place as part of DCW, the exclusive invite-only launch event will be held on the evening of Wednesday 16 October, following the first day of the show, at London Barrique Wine Bar at London ExCeL.
