BIM: Ten years later (or “what’s changed from 2016 to 2026?”) – a retrospective journey through the same old same old

In 2011 the Government Construction Strategy set a deadline of 2016 for publicly procured projects to be all public projects to be “fully collaborative 3D BIM (with all project and asset information, documentation and data being electronic)”. It’s now 2026 and things have certainly changed. But you know what they say – the more things change the more they stay the same.

Nigel Davies, Director at Evolve Consultancy, and Craig Hardingham, Digital Technical Director at Sweco, will take you on a journey through the last 10 years since the UK BIM mandate took effect.

It just so happens that Craig is exactly 10 years younger than Nigel and is the same age now as Nigel was in 2016. So what was happening ten years ago, back in Nigel’s youth? What were people trying to understand? What were the key topics of conferences of the day? What were the industry experts telling you? But more importantly, what have we learnt in the last 10 years? How has the industry improved? Has it improved?
