Reimagining robotic layout: Adapting construction robotics for rebar cages prefabrication on a mega project

Robotic layout is typically associated with partitions and MEP. This session explores what happens when that same technology is pushed beyond its conventional use.

It presents a live case study from the Hinkley Point C nuclear project, where robotic layout has been adapted to support rebar cage prefabrication in a high-volume production environment. Faced with time-intensive manual setting out and increasing productivity demands, the team rethought how robotics could be integrated into an unconventional workflow to improve efficiency, consistency, and accuracy.

The session will share the practical realities of implementation, from workflow redesign and transforming reinforcement IFC models and data into print-ready outputs, to how printing strategies and operational constraints influenced technical decisions.

Attendees will gain practical insight into extending construction robotics beyond conventional applications and a clear understanding of what it takes to make innovation deliver on site, unlocking measurable value through digital implementation and process improvement.
