Head of Research and Innovation, Cundall
Ed Wealand is head of Cundall’s research and innovation team. A chartered engineer with more than a decade’s global experience, he is focused on driving the uptake of advanced computational methods within the practice. This includes the use of visual and traditional coding, generative design methods, AI and machine learning, to automate and optimise existing processes and invent new ones. He combines this with an in-depth knowledge of passive design, CFD, energy simulation, and adaptive thermal comfort to explore optimal design solutions. He led the development of Cundall’s cloud-based indoor environmental monitoring systems, and his team continues to gather insights from the data this provides to optimise workplace wellbeing, productivity, comfort, and air quality. He is also chair of CIBSE’s Air Quality Working Group.
