Mark has worked in the construction industry for most of his working life. Mark has assisted in the building of many large civil engineering projects covering highways, tunnels, rail, oil and gas refineries and water treatment plants. Mark gained Chartered Engineer status through the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineers and uses his experience and knowledge to assist academia in the education of Engineering survey, and how it is used in industry. I lead and chair a number of groups that are related to Academia, Professional membership, and best practice for the industry.
Currently I am the lead Engineering Survey Manager on Highways England largest road project (£1.bn) a 30km bypass and improvement scheme with over 70 structures. I deployed variety of geospatial technologies to improve the efficiency, quality and safety of our engineering tasks. This ranges from site survey control to asbuilt scanning and handover, using GPS/GNSS/Total station/laser scanning/drone/3DMC.
The new technology of Drones and the specific payload they carry is changing the way we survey, record and make safer sites. This is either via media grade drones or survey grade drones in my working environment.
