Bye COBie, say hello to AOH: How buildingSMART is creating a purposeful asset handover

COBie has played a significant role in standardising asset information handover, but its one-size-fits-all approach has increasingly resulted in waste, misinterpretation, and poor long-term asset value – it is time for something new.

buildingSMART’s new Asset Operations Handover (AOH) framework represents a fundamental shift – giving us a use-case-driven, modular, and up-to-date approach which is now fully inclusive of infrastructure as well as buildings!

This session explores how AOH effectively replaces the need for COBie, not by redefining what information is needed, but by changing how and why that information is specified, produced, validated, and exchanged. It will examine how recent work on AOH addresses long-standing industry issues.

The session is aimed at asset owners, clients, digital leads, and information managers seeking a scalable, interoperable, and future-proof alternative to COBie that supports real operational outcomes rather than compliance-driven data exchanges.
